Marriage License Information
- One of the two
people applying for a marriage license must be a resident of
Putnam County and have proof of residency with a Indiana driver’s
license or proof of residency with a utility bill or some other
type of ID with their current address.
- Both applicants
must be present to apply for a license.
- Parental consent
must be obtained for anyone under the age of 18. Both parents
must be present to sign the release for the marriage. Anyone 15
or under must petition the courts to be married. This is done
through the Circuit Court.
- The cost of a
marriage license is $18.00 cash. We do not take personal checks.
If a couple resides in a different state, the cost of the marriage
license is $60.00 cash and they must get married in the county in
which the obtain the marriage license.
- Some other
general questions that are asked include: mother’s maiden name,
the state that their parents were born in, the state they now
reside in, if either person has been married before, the month and
year of the previous death or divorce of the former spouse.
- A marriage
License is valid for sixty (60) days.
