Putnam County 911 can send “Emergency Notifications” to residents cell phones and email addresses. This would be used in the event of a tornado warning, a community boil order, a missing child, a fugitive at large in the area, etc. Cell phones and email addresses must be registered. You may register for multiple locations in Putnam County (say for when you are work, for your child at school, for your home, etc.). This system is IPAWS capable.
Enhanced 911 Database
Both Landline and wireless subscribers in Putnam County are encouraged to submit response information that would aid police, fire and EMS in the event of an emergency response to your telephone number. This information, which is held in strictest confidence, includes the description of your home, on site hazardous materials, pertinent medical information, disabilities, etc. Information can be submitted to the address, email or telephone number below. Situations involving 911 hangups or events where callers are unable to speak are especially pertinent in this situation.
Emergency Medical Dispatch
Putnam County has physician oversight of it Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Program from Methodist Hospital. We follow the “Priority Dispatch” program which is recognized by the American Heart Association. A script of questions is followed which determine what type of ambulance is sent, the nature of the response and whether first responders are also dispatched. Six preliminary questions are always given, followed by other questions which drill deeper into the nature of the problem. These questions are: 1. What is the address of the Emergency, 2. What is the phone number your are calling from, 3. Okay, tell me exactly what happened?, 4. How old is s/he? 5. is s/he awake (consious) and 6. is s/he breathing? These questions actually save time in the response by increasing our accuracy of the problem and making sure we dispatch the correct responders right from the start.
The text of Putnam County’s Alarm Ordinance is linked under documents above. The Alarm Ordinance regulates alarm systems in Putnam County and determines penalties for false alarms. All alarms coming into the 911 center are assumed real until determined otherwise. This means that responders will be sent emergent (red lights and siren) which is always a dangerous act. Repetitive false alarms can be penalized with fines and this is described in the text of the ordinance.
